Introduction

Crowdloans are one of the hot opportunities at the moment. There are different options for how you can join a crowdloan. To maximize the rewards and bonuses, you need to use setup a native Polkadot Wallet.

In this tutorial, we are going to cover the following topics.

  • How to set up a Polkadot.js Wallet
  • How to transfer funds to your Polkadot Wallet
  • How to attend a Crowdloan

Let's get started.

Setup your Polkdot-js Wallet

First, we need a wallet that works with the Polkadot blockchain. We will go with Polkadot.js Wallet. If you do not have a Polkadot Wallet set up yet, follow the following steps.

Step 1: Go to the  Polkadot.js Website and Choose the Extension

Step 2: Download the Extension for your Browser

Step 3: Open Browser Extension and Click on the + to add an account

Like with every Wallet you create outside of the central exchange, you need to keep your Wallet's mnemonic seed safe. Please write it down and put it in a safe place. Never store images or plain text versions of it online. The seed can be used to restore your Wallet and gives full access to your assets. Be careful with that.

After writing down your seed, you can choose an account name and set a password for your Wallet.

Step 4: Go back to the  Polkadot.js.org Website and click on apps wallet hosted

Here you need to authorize the page to connect with your Wallet. Always read the details and double-check the URL if it is the right one.

Step 5: Send and Receive Tokens

Now you should see your account information; if you just created your Wallet, there will be 0 DOT on it. From here, you can send and receive DOT.

Before you send DOT to your newly created Wallet, always check that you set the right Network. In your Extension, you can do that at the three dots next to the wallet address in the dropdown.

Transfer DOT to your Wallet

We will transfer DOT from our Binance Account. This should also work similarly to any central exchange you are using.

Step 1: Log in to your Binance Account

And buy DOT Tokens if you did not do that yet.

Step 2: Get your Polkadot Address from Polkadot.js

Go to Polkadot.js.org Apps. Connect it with your Extension. Click on the icon next to your Account name where you want to transfer your funds too. Your account address should have been copied to your clipboard. Always double-check if you have set the right Network in our Case Polkadot Relay Chain.

Step 3: Transfer $DOT to your Polkadot.js Wallet

Choose the DOT Token. Check the withdrawal options

If you make a bigger transfer and you are doing this the first time, it is maybe better to make a smaller transfer before you send all your crypto millions on the way.

Enter the Polkadot Relay Chain Address from your Wallet, check if you are ok with the Binance Transaction Fees, and send if everything is alright. You should be able to see the transferred $DOT within a couple of minutes on your Wallet. If you make a test transfer, repeat for the larger amount.

That's it; you are ready to contribute to the crowdloan.
