Weirdo's Weekly Update — 3 Apr, 2023

What are we working on?

We've completed the first quarter of our OKRs and are excited to dive in and review what worked and what didn't.

Regarding the success rate of OKRs, the target for key results is recommended at about 70%. A 70% success rate encourages competitive goal-making, but if 100% of the key results are consistently being met, key results should be reevaluated and improved. As if you always reach your goals 100 %, you probably didn't set them aspiring enough, or you are simply sandbagging your way around. 😉

This week we're in the process of creating OKRs for Q2. We have some big plans for the second quarter - we'll launch not one, not two, but THREE courses to kick-start our academy this quarter! We know it will be a lot of work, but we're super excited to take on these new challenges and learn as we go.

Plus, we'll publish more free content from our three areas: crypto, goal setting, and digital nomadism. So, stay tuned and get ready for some serious learning! 🤓

Crypto Update

Bitcoin Dominance: 48% (+/- 0%) - Coming close to the 2 years high

Ethereum Dominance: 19% (+/- 0%)

Total Crypto Marketcap: 1,15T USD

Are you ready for a quick recap of the first quarter in the world of cryptocurrencies? This rollercoaster ride saw prices in the green across the board, with Bitcoin up 70% and Ethereum up 51%. However, the industry also experienced a lot of regulatory crackdowns and lawsuits against it and its partners. The collapse of banks such as Signature, Silvergate, and Silicon Valley Bank has also made it harder for crypto firms to connect to the banking system. Many are now searching for new reputable banks to work with. Nevertheless, the crypto world is flourishing, with more entrepreneurs embracing remote work and exploring ways to become location-independent.

zkSync Era, the first zkEVM on the Ethereum blockchain, has launched to the public, using zero-knowledge proofs to batch transactions for faster and cheaper transactions than Ethereum's mainnet. The network includes native account abstraction and will initially not have a token. The sequencer is set to become decentralized in a year. The network invested $3.8M in security testing, seven independent security audits, and a bug bounty program to minimize the risk of any incidents. Between 32 to 50 projects are expected to go live on the network, including Uniswap, Curve, Balancer, Maker, SushiSwap, Circle, and Argent. The race to bring the first zkEVM to market is heating up, with several competitors vying for the top spot.

This could be one of the next big Airdrops.

Travel Update

We have less than 2 weeks left in Bali. While spending most of our time in Canggu, where we have our monthly Airbnb accommodations, we are making scooter trips to explore the island. This Saturday, we had a lovely brunch in an authentic Vietnamese restaurant with beautiful garden-facing rice fields.

After that, we drove towards Tanah Lot - a famous temple on Bali's southwest coast. What makes Tanah Lot special is its location on a rock formation in the middle of the ocean. During high tide, the temple is surrounded by water.

The temple is believed to have been built in the 16th century as a tribute to the sea gods of the Hindu religion. Today, Tanah Lot is still considered a sacred site and is visited by locals and tourists who come to pray, make offerings, and take in the views.

The area is also known for its natural beauty. It is a popular spot for watching the sunset over the ocean. You can explore the temple grounds, which include several shrines, gardens, and courtyards, as well as shops and restaurants selling local crafts and cuisine.

The entry fee is 60000 Indonesian Rupiah, which is about 3.70 Euros.

Unrelated to the beautiful landscapes of Bali, we noticed this week that Reddit had been banned in Indonesia since 2014. We were surprised about that discovery. The ban happened under the Indonesian "Healthy Internet" (Internet Sehat) Program. It was an effort to protect Indonesians from explicit content and pirated media.

Series "Fauda." It's an Israeli television series that premiered in 2015. The show revolves around a team of Israeli undercover agents tasked with tracking down and capturing or killing members of Palestinian militant groups in the West Bank.It nicely explores the complex and often violent political conflict between Israel and Palestine through the eyes of both Israeli and Palestinian characters. It delves into the personal lives and motivations of the characters, as well as the broader political and social context in which they operate. At moments heavy but very interesting watch.

Tool of the week

This week's kudos go to Webflow!

Webflow is a website building and hosting service that helps is a website builder and content management system (CMS) that allows you to create responsive websites without requiring knowledge of coding or web development, using a drag-and-drop interface and a variety of customizable templates and elements. It has similarities with more generally known WordPress, but with some significant differences with more design freedom, on-page edits, etc.We built our site weirdo.rocks on Webflow and like everything it offers. Compared to WordPress, it's more expensive, but it could be worth the price depending on what you are looking for when building a site.

Something to think about

Found this from James Clear:

Ronald Sharp On friendship and relationships

"It’s not about what someone can do for you, it's who and what the two of you become in each other's presence."

Tara Ploughman with an obvious, but often ignored, insight:

"Never offer what you'd hate someone for accepting."

A question to ask yourself

Does this habit still serve me, or am I blindly following an old routine?

Productivity tips and tricks

🙅 Learn to say no 🙅

Saying "no" can be a helpful productivity technique because it helps you prioritize your time and focus on what is most important. When you say "yes" to every request or opportunity that comes your way, you can quickly become overwhelmed and find yourself struggling to keep up with your responsibilities.By saying "no" to requests not aligned with your goals or values, you can free up time and mental energy to focus on more important tasks. This can help you be more productive and effective in achieving your goals.Saying "no" can also help you set boundaries and avoid overcommitting yourself, leading to burnout and stress. By being selective about your projects and activities, you can ensure that you have the time and resources to do your best work and achieve your desired outcomes.
